A very rare compendium of early 16th-century Venetian editions of important astrological and astronomical works, bound in a contemporary German pigskin binding. RARE FIRST EDITION of Maier\'s mystical work on the seven metals and their corresponding planets, each represented by an allegorical woodcut. Maier was court physician to Emperor Rudolph II and spent time in England at the court of James I. His alchemical writings influenced the curious minds of Elias Ashmole and Isaac Newton. FIRST EDITION of Danti\'s translation of the influential astronomical text by Proclus, the Neo-Platonic philosopher who lived and wrote in a time that was on the threshold between the ancient world and the Middle Ages. Danti taught at the University of Pisa, and was Cosmographer to the Medici court. His treatise on the use of the astrolabe, bound here after the work of Proclus, was the first book on the subject published in Italy.
